Walk My World, Annie Leist’s first solo exhibition in the Boston area, will run from July 1st through August 1st at Prudential Unlimited Realty, 673 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain, MA, with an opening reception on Thursday, July 1, from 6-8pm. The exhibition features ten paintings and five drawings, many of which date from 2010 and have never before been shown publicly.
The complete Infrastructure trilogy is present, as is a new member of each of the Interior and Beacons series. In addition, three new series are introduced - Commuter, Platform, and Revolving Door. The office’s conference room features five oil pastel drawings of traffic cones. The collection is full of the bold color and active brushwork viewers have come to expect. It still features references to urban landscape, but in several of the newer pieces human figures return to a more prominent role not common in Leist’s work since the late 1990s. The exhibition title, Walk My World, binds the pieces together under the loose theme of Leist’s experience as a pedestrian in both New York and Boston. Rather than a single body of work, this show offers threads of several ideas and a preview of what is to come next out of Annie Leist’s studio.
